Japfest 2019 - Poland Photo Archives
At least for car enthusiasts, Poland may or may not be the best country in Europe. I swear I'm very proud of my Romanian heritage, but when I can go to a festival dedicated to Japanese tuner cars, with drifting, burnouts, and people bashing rev limiters, that's all I could ever really ask for. Poland has shown me that there really are cool Japanese cars in Europe - and a great drift scene!
Japfest is hosted in the middle of the summer at an old Military Airport. I entered the gates to discover a huge grassy field with hundreds of JDM cars parked in rows. We arrived on Friday morning while everyone was starting to arrive and set up their campsites for the weekend.

It's difficult for me to explain what exactly you do at Japfest. Mostly because vodka is cheap in Poland and, well, if you're not driving at Japfest, you're drinking. Imagine a summer music festival but instead of artists, it's a typical Janusz playing Polish rap music from the back of his Nismo Juke. Then you wake up and watch some drifting, look at some of the coolest cars you've ever seen, eat a zapiekanka, and then go to Żabka for more Żubrówka. What more could you ask for from a car festival?
The weekend was filled with different events but my favourite part was Friday and Saturday night. I love the care-free atmosphere of Europe. There were parties at nearly every campsite, concerts on the mainstage, and it seemed like everyone there only had one thing on their mind - getting completely pijany. Though there was a severe lack of authentic pierogies made with love by Babcia, I was willing to look past it.
Please note the giant monster truck FULL of people in the background. |
Among all the amazing cars at the event, there was one that truly stood out. The car models in Poland are also on another level. This one's beauty was captivating.
