Meihan Sportsland Drifting - Japan Photo Archives
Meihan Sportsland is an iconic track in the world of drifting, mostly for the C-Course track. Meihan is located in Nara, about an hour-long drive from Osaka. It's pretty tough to get there without a car (6+ hours, 5 bus and train transfers, finished with a 30-minute walk) but we were lucky enough to be able to carpool to the track. If you don't have any friends living in Japan that can give you a ride, I would highly recommend renting a car for the day and driving there yourself. Unfortunately, I only went to Meihan once this trip, but it was well worth it.
The C-Course is home to a long wall ride section where drivers can pick up a lot of speed before the first feature, which means crazy fast entries. I love going to Meihan because there are always amazing drivers there, it's one of my favourite tracks for spectating. D-Course was also open, which was set up for Gymkhana - a skidpad set up with cones to drift around. While the huge, fast entries are really exciting to watch, I spent most of my time at the D-Course because it's more fun for me to watch people drift around in circles.
I also love going to Meihan because it's guaranteed that you're going to see some amazing drift builds there. The pits are open for spectators to walk around and look at all the cars. I loved trying to talk to people in my very broken Japanese and tell them that their cars are cool (anata no kuruma wa hontoni kakkoii desu, thank you google translate!)
